- - 1 - Disruptive MHD Activity during Plasma

چکیده

During the current rise phase of the Alcator A discharge a series of disruptions occurs, related to MHD activity of poloidal periodicity m, at limiter q values approximately 1.6 m (m integral). The electron temperature profile is peaked at the-center throughout. It is shown, however, that current diffusion with the experimental T profiles typically leads to hollow current profiles and that the disruptions appear to be related to the local minimum of q inside the plasma attaining near-integral values. Disruptions may be avoided by decreasing the rate of current rise. This leads to improved plasma conditions throughout the discharge.

Analysis of Disruptive Discharges During Density Limit Experiments on the HT-7 Tokamak

In this work, we discuss the preliminary analysis of some disruptive plasma discharges with a moveable graphite limiter on the HT-7 tokamak, which has been developed in order to investigate the influence of the horizontal plasma position on the density limit. What we have observed is that the m=2, MHD component dominates during almost the whole discharge duration, when the density limit is appr...

Kinetic Monte Carlo simulation of escaping core plasma particles to the scrape-off layer for accurate response of plasma-facing components

During normal and disruptive operations in tokamak devices the escaped core plasma particles are a potential threat to the divertor and nearby component lifetime as well as plasma contamination. Comprehensive enhanced physical and numerical models are developed and implemented in the upgraded High Energy Interaction with General Heterogeneous Target Systems (HEIGHTS) package to accurately predi...

Non-linear Mhd Studies in Toroidal Geometry - Disruptive Phenomena in Tokamak Plasmas*

NON-LINEAR MHD STUDIES IN TOROIDAL GEOMETRY DISRUPTIVE PHENOMENA IN TOKAMAK PLASMAS. Sawtooth oscillations and related fluid excitations are studied analytically and computationally, and some modifications relevant to high temperature regimes are presented. The role of the ideal kink in the sawtooth crash and a new theory of density limit disruptions are discussed. 1. NONLINEAR MHD STUDIES IN T...

New Observations Concerning the Origin and Consequences of MHD Activity in the MST Reversed Field Pinch

Reversed Field Pinch (RFP) plasmas exhibit a broad spectrum of MHD activity. The instability underlying much of this activity in the standard RFP discharge has been identified as resistive tearing and is well modelled by nonlinear, resistive MHD. In recent years two additional types of discharge have been produced: those with reduced tearing activity leading to improved confinement and those wi...

Detection of Disruptions in the High-β Spherical Torus NSTX

This paper describes the prediction of disruptions based on diagnostic data in the high-β spherical torus NSTX [M. Ono, et al., Nuclear Fusion 40, 557 (2000)]. The disruptive threshold values on many signals are examined. In some cases, raw diagnostic data can be used as a signal for disruption prediction. In others, the deviations of the plasma data from simple models provides the signal used ...
